There were several standout performers on the gridiron during the 2024 high school football season.

To highlight those individuals for their efforts, we are releasing the Tyler Morning Telegraph All-Rose Country Football Team.


2024-25 TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH

ALL-ROSE COUNTRY FOOTBALL TEAM

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Mike Jones, Malakoff, senior, quarterback: Jones was 175 of 247 passing for 2,591 yards and 38 touchdowns. He had 123 carries for 1,129 yards and 11 touchdowns. For his career, Jones was 520 of 779 for 7,477 yards and 93 touchdowns, while also rushing for 2,442 yards and 30 touchdowns. Jones finished with a career record of 44-3. He led the Tigers to a Class 3A Division I championship as a junior and to the title game as a senior, guiding the Tigers to a 31-game winning streak. He has signed with Trinity Valley Community College.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Kavian Bryant, Palestine Westwood, sophomore, quarterback: Bryant was 139 of 186 for 2,718 yards and 43 touchdowns, and he had 80 carries for 856 yards and 14 touchdowns. Bryant led the Panthers to an 11-1 record, falling to eventual state champion Columbus in the area round. Bryant, a four-star recruit, has football offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Florida State, Houston, Kansas State, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Sacramento State, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UNLV, UTSA and North Texas, and he has basketball offers from Arizona State, California, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Trevor Brooks, Chapel Hill, senior, linebacker: Brooks, a do-it-all player for the Bulldogs, had 150 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 4 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and an interception returned for a touchdown. He is the all-time school record holder for sacks (24) and tackles for loss (96). On offense, Brooks had 30 catches for 365 yards and five touchdowns, and he carried the ball 11 times for 103 yards and two touchdowns. As a punter, Brooks had a 41.5-yard average with 16 inside the 20.

OFFENSIVE NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Trey Haralson, Tyler High, sophomore, wide receiver: Harlason burst onto the scene this season with 32 catches for 682 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had a kickoff return for a touchdown. Haralson has offers from Arkansas, Michigan State, North Texas, Ole Miss, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas State, UTEP and UTSA.

DEFENSIVE NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Kadavion Pickens, Whitehouse, sophomore, defensive end: Pickens had 87 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 9 quarterback pressures, 2 interceptions, 3 passes broke up and 1 forced fumble in his debut season for the Wildcats to earn all-state honors in Class 5A.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Jamie Driskell, Malakoff: Driskell led Malakoff to a 15-1 record and the Class 3A Division I championship game, a year after leading the Tigers to the program’s first state championship victory. Malakoff won 31 straight games. Driskell just finished his 16th year as head coach at Malakoff, compiling a record of 173-36 with 16 playoff appearances and 10 district championships. Malakoff has advanced to the playoffs and won at least eight games in every season since Driskell took over in 2009. The Tigers are 36-15 in the postseason under Driskell.
