Four-legged friends and their humans can walk a mile and take part in other activities Saturday during the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center’s annual Strut Your Mutt event.
The festivities are set to begin at 10 a.m. at the shelter, 303 H.G. Mosley Parkway. The event is a fundraiser for the shelter and takes part in conjunction with Longview PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving), the nonprofit organization benefitting the shelter.
Music, vendors, children’s activities and more are part of the event. The main component is the 1-mile walk wag, where pet owners and their furry family members can take a stroll together. People who are walking a dog must register for the event, and each participant can walk only one dog. Dog-walkers must be at least 13, and all dogs must be accompanied by an adult at least 18.
The cost of registration is $30 per dog, but there’s no registration charge for people. People who want to participate but aren’t walking a dog need not register.
“This event brings together pet lovers, local businesses and supporters to raise awareness and funds for the vital work we do, alongside Longview PAWS, for the animals in our care and our community,” said Jenna George, the city of Longview’s animal services director.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the animal shelter, but people also can register online in advance at tinyurl.com/2025strut.
All participating dogs will receive an event bandana, which must be worn as proof of registration. All dogs must have all required vaccinations, and pet owners must bring a copy of their dog’s rabies vaccination certificate. Dogs cannot be aggressive toward people and other animals, and female dogs cannot be in heat.
Retractable leashes must be less than 6 feet long, and dogs must be leashed at all times. Pet owners need to scoop up their dog’s waste — bags and receptacles will be provided.
