Baseball Roundup: Brook Hill sweeps Austin Brentwood

AUSTIN — The Brook Hill Guard stayed unbeaten in Division II District 2 baseball with a doubleheader sweep of Austin Brentwood on Saturday.

The Guard defeated the Bears by 11-0 scores in both games.


Ben Braatz was on the mound, throwing a two-hit four-inning shutout. He struck out 10 and walked one.

Samuel Williams drove in four runs, including a three-run double.

Gabe Tatum added a double with a hit each from Dallas Clements, Braxton, Levi Visser, Blake Whitten and Layton Waters.

Whitten got the win on the mound, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out four in 3.1 innings of work. Visser finished the game, going 1.2 innings, striking out one and not allowing a hit or a walk.

Williams hit a solo homer.

Brook Hill collected nine hits in the game including two each from Braatz and Williams and a double from Visser.

RBIs were from Braatz (2) and Visser (2). Visser and Braxton Durrett each hit sacrifice flys.

Zack Bolden, Gonzalez, and Jack Copeland each collected one hit for Brentwood Christian.

Brook Hill Guard Varsity welcome Regents Varsity Knights on Friday for their next game.

Brook Hill is scheduled to host Austin Regents in a doubleheader Friday with the first game set for 4:30 p.m.

TEXAS HIGH 19, TYLER HIGH 0

Texas High scored a 19-0 win over the Tyler High Lions on Tuesday in a District 10-5A baseball game at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Mike Carter Field.

The Tigers moved to 6-2 in district, with the Lions falling to 3-17 overall and 0-9 in district. 

The Texarkana school scored 12 runs in the first inning en route to the win.

Kason Schilling threw a seven-hitter, going all five innings (8 strikeouts, 1 walk).

Texas High had seven doubles — Jacob High (2), Kam Wrightner (2), Zabre Turner (2) and Jacob Yowell (1).

Yowell was 5 for 5 with four RBIs and Wrightner was 4 for 4 with three RBIs. High was 3 for 3, knocking in two runs.

The Lions had seven hits — Da’Markous Pierce (2), Adrian Alvarado (1), Malachi Deleon (1), Juan Higuera (1), Aden Portley (1) and Josue Menera (1).

The Lions return to play on Friday, traveling to Mount Pleasant for a 7 p.m. contest. Tyler’s next home game is Tuesday, April 8 against Marshall (4:30 p.m.).

HENDERSON 5, PINE TREE 1 

LONGVIEW — Brian Biggs fanned 10 with three walks and no runs allowed on three hits in six innings, and Macen Jones finished up on the hill by allowing a run on no hits in one inning as Henderson notched a 5-1 win over the Pine Tree Pirates.

Manning Bradley and Kayne Brantley had two hits apiece for Henderson, and Maddox Hatchel tripled and drove in three runs. Biggs and Jones also drove in runs for the Lions.

Peyton Hightree, Zachary Duhart and Manuel Williams all singled for Pine Tree. Braydon Marsh pitched five innings, striking out six and walking a couple. Williams fanned two and walked two in two innings.

KILGORE 11, CHAPEL HILL 2

KILGORE — Cason Edney went the distance on the mound, striking out eight with no walks and two earned runs allowed as Kilgore romped to an 11-2 win over Chapel Hill.

Miles Applegate doubled twice, singled and drove in a run for Kilgore. Salvador Cervantes added a triple, single and RBI, and Kayson Brooks and Kolton Hale chipped in with two hits apiece. Joseph Hendrickson doubled and drove in two runs, and Brooks, Clayton, Edney, Brayden Williams and Tanner Beets all drove in runs.

GILMER 14, CUMBERLAND 0

GILMER — Klein Lindsey struck out four and walked one in three innings, Aden Vineyard fanned three with no walks in two frames and the Gilmer Buckeyes blanked Cumberland Academy, 14-0.

Tayveon Horne doubled and singled, driving in two runs for Gilmer. Lathan Kemp doubled and drove in a run. Aiden Davis added two RBI, and Chevy Edwards, Ryder Lange, Lindsey, Brendon Darnold, Aiden Akin, Aden Vineyard and Dillon Griffin all drove in runs.

WHITE OAK 7, WEST RUSK 0

NEW LONDON — Collin Wheat turned in a dominant performance on the mound for White Oak, striking out 10 with two walks and one hit allowed in seven innings as the Roughnecks blanked West Rusk 7-0.

Jordy Robertson doubled and singled and Brady Greenwood doubled for the Roughnecks. Robertson, Nico Soto, Tyson McKinney and Wheat all drove in runs.

TROUP 6, TATUM 5

TROUP — Troup rallied from a 5-1 deficit with five runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 win over the Tatum Eagles.

Tristin Berry fanned four and walked two in 6.2 innings for Tatum. Logan Cansler walked three in relief.

Grant Adcock homered once and singled twice for the Eagles. Kody Hines doubled, singled and drove in a run, and Tucker Anthony added an RBI. Colt Bullard also doubled for Tatum

GLADEWATER 12, SABINE 2

GLADEWATER — Luke Brown went five innings on the hill for the Bears, striking out nine and walking four, and Gladewater earned a 12-2 win over Sabine.

Brown singled twice and drove in a run. Preston Bohanon added a triple and single. Sean Burke and Madaxx Vasquez had two RBI apiece and Landen King doubled, singled and drove in a run. Mason Budro also chipped in with an RBI.
