Black History, Valentine’s and Super Bowl events among weekend events in East Texas

The UT Tyler University Center was filled with sixth-grade girls Saturday for the annual Girl Power event hosted by the Junior League of Tyler.

Girl Power Summit, Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., 2000 W. Front Street in Tyler (W.T. Brookshire Conference Center). This event is dedicated to celebrating and empowering sixth grade girls across East Texas. Girls can imagine their futures through an engaging career safari featuring local woman-owned businesses and professional leaders. 4th Annual East Texas Black History Month Celebration, Saturday, 6 — 8 p.m., 5701 South Broadway Avenue in Tyler (Holiday Inn Tyler — Conference Center). Join the Texas African American Museum in honoring the 4th annual East Texas Black History Month Celebration, featuring Mayor Henry Pace — the first black mayor of Henderson. There will also be appearances by the African American Cultural Committee, The LINKS Incorporated (East Texas Chapter), Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. — the Rose City Chapter — and more. Galantine’s Day Event, Saturday, 4 — 8 p.m., 108 E 8th Street in Tyler (Native Healing and Wellness). Come for a night of healing, connection and celebration at Native Healing and Wellness for a Galentine’s Day event. Enjoy local wine and refreshments, shop local vendors, take advantage of exclusive deals and specials, as well as door prizes and raffles, and more. There is a limited time offer of $50 per ticket. Galentine’s Market, Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 2459 Mosaic Way Suite A in Tyler (Likewise Coffee). Under the True Vine Brewing pavilion, expect all things girly with local flowers, boutique clothing, jewelry, home goods, and treats from local small business owners. Valentine’s Dance, Friday, 7 — 8:30 p.m. (mother-son, ages 4-13); Saturday, 6 — 8:30 p.m. (daddy-daughter, ages 4-8) and 8 — 9:30 p.m. (daddy-daughter, ages 9-13, 501 W 32nd Street in Tyler (Glass Recreation Center). Families are invited to don their best semi-formal attire and dance the night away at the City of Tyler’s annual Mother-Son and Daddy-Daughter Valentine’s Dances. The Masquerade Sweetheart Ball offers a DJ, refreshments, dancing, and professional photos. Limited tickets are available at $10 per person; you may purchase online or at the Glass Recreation Center. Beginner Beekeeping Class, Saturday, 9:30 a.m., 116 S. Beckham Avenue in Tyler (Honey Badger Trading Co). Join other buzzing enthusiasts and learn about the basic knowledge to be a successful backyard beekeeper. The class usually lasts about two hours. 2nd Annual Bags & Brews Cornhole Tournament, Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 100 Grand Blvd in Longview (Maude Cobb Convention Center). Get ready to toss for a great cause at the 2nd annual cornhole tournament benefiting the East Texas Alzheimer’s Alliance. Participants and observers can enjoy concessions, music, and drinks (beer and wine included) while competing in one of three divisions: competitive, social backyard, and senior adults. Northeast District Thrive Conference, Saturday, 9:30 a.m., 400 N Fredonia Street in Longview (First United Methodist Church of Longview). The NE District UMC Churches are invited to THRIVE in 2025 for a time of worship, fellowship, and connection. Churches are encouraged to send at least three members and their pastor to represent their ministries and celebrate the diversity of the NorthEast District.
