Tyler ISD has been named one of the top three winners in the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) biennial Student Video Contest, which highlights the strength and success of Texas public schools through student-led storytelling.

The district’s winning video features students of all ages sharing what makes Tyler ISD special. Their voices capture Tyler ISD’s commitment to education, growth, and community.

“Our students did an incredible job showcasing what makes Tyler ISD such a great place to learn and grow,” said Jennifer Hines, Tyler ISD Chief Communications Officer. “From concept to completion, our team member, Jacob Walker, played a key role in bringing our students’ voices to life in the ‘Because of You’ video. His ability to capture the impact of our educators and the heart of our hometown school district through storytelling made this project truly special.”

Tyler ISD will receive a $5,000 prize as the first-place winner in the Large District category (5,001 or more students), alongside Robinson ISD (Medium District) and Santa Maria ISD (Small District), which also placed first in their respective categories.

“This recognition highlights the passion and dedication of our students and educators,” Hines said. “We are honored to receive this award and grateful for the opportunity to share our story with Texas.”

In Tyler ISD’s video, students from various campuses shared how much their educators mean to them and the profound impact they have on their lives and education. This video was shown at the annual Teachers of the Year gala last Thursday evening.

Forty-one videos from school districts across Texas were submitted and reviewed by a panel of six judges. TASB Executive Director Dan Troxell commended all participants for their creativity and dedication.

“These videos focus on what makes public schools the best choice while highlighting the achievements of individual school districts,” Troxell said. “We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated in this year’s contest.”

TASB President Rolinda Schmidt emphasized the power of storytelling in public education. “No matter a district’s size, every school has a story to tell,” she said. “It’s through sharing those successes and stories that we connect, inspire, and create a positive impact for the 5.5 million schoolchildren in our state.”
