Rockwall edges Tyler Legacy, 3-2

The Rockwall Yellowjackets edged the Tyler Legacy Red Raiders 3-2 on Tuesday in a District 10-6A baseball game at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Mike Carter Field.
The Red Raiders fell to 12-12 overall and 4-5 in district, while league-leading Rockwall improved to 22-3 and 6-1.
Legacy took a 1-0 lead in the first before Rockwall went ahead 2-1 in the second. The Red Raiders knotted the game at 2-2 in the fourth but the Yellowjackets took the lead for good by plating a run in the fifth.
The Tyler Legacy pitching staff limited Rockwall to five hits.
Junior Cale Zips started, tossing 4.2 innings while allowing four hits and three runs (2 earned). He struck out four and only walked one. Sophomore Jaden Davis logged the final 2.1 innings, giving up one hit and no runs while walking just one.
Tristan Raley, who has committed to Panola College, hit a solo home run for the ‘Jackets and EJ Menchaca added a double and a single.
Adding singles were Brent Celis and Charles Mahaffey. AJ Newby had an RBI with Raley, Celis and Mahaffey scoring runs.
The Red Raiders had six hits, led by Payne Hotman’s two knocks. The sophomore also had a stolen base. Others with hits were Garner McKinney, Zips, Noah Felton and Cole Kimmel.
Nolan Hable and Owen Harrison had RBIs.
Lefty Vince Estrada started for Rockwall, throwing 5.1 innings (5 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts). He was followed by Mechaca (1.2 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts).
The two teams will play again on Friday at Rockwall (7 p.m.).
