Baseball Notebook: Bullard’s Foster, Troup’s Hardy take weekly honors

Bullard’s Ethan Foster and Troup’s Kash Hardy have earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Baseball Player of the Week honors for games played March 31-April 5.
Foster was chosen as the Pitcher of the Week, and Hardy was selected as the Hitter of the Week.
Foster, a junior left-hander, threw a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts and no walks in a 4-0 win over Madisonvlle.
Hardy went 4-for-7 (.571) with a double, two RBIs, a run and a walk as Troup picked up two wins (6-5 and 7-6) over No. 15 Tatum. Hardy also went 2-0 on the mound, allowing no runs on three hits in 5.1 innings.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
PITCHING
Van’s Grady Baetz, Connor McCurley and Braiden Peyton threw a combined no-hitter following a two-hour delayed start due to weather and then three in-game lightning delays in a 10-0 win over Athens. Baetz had 10 strikeouts in five innings. McCurley threw a scoreless innings and also had a home run, a double and four RBIs at the plate. Peyton threw a scoreless seventh with three strikeouts and one walk.
Arp senior Caden Cliporn allowed two earned runs on one hit with 10 strikeouts and two walks in five innings to pick up a win over Douglass.
Edgewood’s Alex Martinez allowed one run on six hits with 16 strikeouts and three walks in 6.2 innings.
HITTING
Arp junior Wyatt Johnson went 3-for-4 (.750) with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
East Texas teams ranked in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association rankings are Whitehouse No. 3 in 5A; Pleasant Grove No. 2 and Spring Hill No. 4 in 4A; Liberty-Eylau No. 1 Central Heights No. 9 in 3A; and Kerens No. 7 and Garrison No. 9 in 2A. Also receiving votes are Hallsville and Lufkin in 5A; Bullard and Lindale in 4A; Diboll and Huntington in 3A; and Beckville, Frankston and Harleton in 2A.
East Texas teams ranked in the txhighschoolbaseball.com rankings are Whitehouse No. 15 and Hallsville No. 23 in 5A; Pleasant Grove No. 2, Spring Hill No. 5, Van No. 15 and Bullard No. 23 in 4A; Liberty-Eylau No. 1, Central Heights No. 9, Diboll No. 13, Huntington No. 14, Edgewood No. 20 and New Diana No. 23 in 3A; Harleton No. 2, Garrison No. 5, Kerens No. 11, Beckville No. 13, Frankston No. 16, Groveton No. 21 and Honey Grove No. 22 in 2A; Brookeland No. 7 and Union Hill No. 9 in 1A; and Brook Hill No. 7 in Large Private Schools.
