ROYSE CITY — The Royse City Bulldogs edged the Tyler Legacy Red Raiders 5-4 on Friday in a District 10-6A baseball game.
The Red Raiders fell to 11-10 overall and 3-3 in district. The Bulldogs improved to 16-4 and 5-1.
Royse City took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, but TL rallied for a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth. The Bulldogs scored two in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth for a 5-3 advantage. The Red Raiders tallied a run in the top of the seventh but fell a run short.
Cale Zips led Tyler Legacy with a three-run homer.
Payne Hotman added two doubles for the Red Raiders and Garner McKinney contributed a single.
McKinney scored two runs with one each from Zips and Simeon Garner.
The Red Raiders pitching staff allowed just three hits.
Calvin Rippy started and pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three hits and two unearned runs with seven strikeouts and three walks. Nolan Hable did not allow a hit in 1.1 innings of work. He gave up two unearned runs with four strikeouts and three walks. Zips pitched one inning and did not allow a hit or a run with two strikeouts and no walks.
Brennan Anderson got the win for RC, going six innings while allowing four hits and four runs (3 earned) with five strikeouts and six walks. Carlos Polania got the save, hurling the final inning (0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 0 strikeouts).
The Bulldogs had three singles — Regan Williams, Alex Nevarez and Cale Austin. RBIs were from Eli Snow, Nevarez and Austin.
Earlier in the week, Royse City edged the Red Raiders 5-4 in eight innings.
Tyler Legacy plays Longview next week — 7 p.m. Tuesday at Longview and 7 p.m. Friday at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Mike Carter Field. The Red Raiders will also visit the Bullard Panthers at 7 p.m. Saturday in a non-district game.
Royse City plays Rockwall-Heath next week — 7 p.m. Tuesday in Royse City and 7 p.m. Friday in Heath.
