MANSFIELD — The Whitehouse LadyCats were 5-4 in the MISD Methodist Mansfield Medical Center Volleyball Invitational this weekend in the Metroplex, earning the Silver Bracket Consolation title.


The tourney included 34 teams from Texas and Oklahoma.

In Thursday’s Pool 3, the LadyCats lost to Keller Timbercreek 2-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-21), Mansfield Legacy 2-0 (25-13, 25-17) and Canyon 2-0 (25-17, 25-16).

In Friday’s Pool 14, Whitehouse bounced back to go 3-0 defeating Mansfield Timberview 2-0 (25-18, 25-11), El Paso Canutillo 2-1 (12-25, 25-15, 25-22) and Dumas 2-0 (25-23, 25-15).

In Saturday’s Silver Bracket, the LadyCats lost to Choctaw (Oklahoma) 2-1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-19) in the first round before defeating North Richland Hills Richland 2-0 (25-17, 25-17) in the consolation semifinals.

Whitehouse then defeated Midland Legacy 2-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-19) in the consolation final.

Some WH standouts this weekend include: Ellie Cooley (9 aces, 65 kills), Ashley Rhame (8 aces, 26 kills, 100 assists), Nicole Magouirk (5 aces, 60 assists), Emma Thomas (33 kills), Trinitti Purvis (15 blocks, 29 kills), Ava Wise (31 kills) and Emerson Hurley (31 kills).

The Whitehouse Defense played a huge roll this weekend totaling 396 digs, Coach Britney Nordin said. Leading the LadyCats were Kate Flanagan (131 digs), Ella Reese (64 digs) and Rhame (59 digs).

Mansfield Lake Ridge defeated El Paso Americas 2-0 (25-21, 25-14) in for the championship bracket title.

Other bracket winners were: Gold — Waco Midway def. Frisco Memorial 2-1 (25-16, 18-25, 25-18); Silver — Amarillo Tascosa def. Waxahachie 2-1 (25-23, 24-26, 25-16); and Bronze — South Grand Prairie def. El Paso Canutillo 2-0 (25-17, 25-22).

The LadyCats (7-4) are scheduled to play at Lindale on Tuesday. All teams are slated to begin play at 5 p.m.
