Boerne tops Kilgore 1-0 at state

Kilgore’s standout soccer season came to a conclusion in the UIL Class 4A state soccer tournament on Wednesday at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.

Boerne defeated the Bulldogs 1-0 in the state semifinals.

The Greyhounds improve to 23-0 on the season and will play in the Class 4A state championship against San Elizario (23-3) at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Kilgore ends its season at 25-3-2.

San Elizario defeated Navasota, 1-0, in overtime in the second semifinal.

In the girls 4A semifinals, Celina won Lumberton (3-1) and Boerne defeated Salado (2-1 in OT). Celina and Boerne will play in the state title game at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

In the boys game, Boerne scored the only goal of the game at 13:58 of the first half as Hudson Vickery found the back of the net on a free kick from about 60 yards.

Diego Rojas had two shots for the Bulldogs with one each from Ruben Rodriguez, Enrique Salazar and Jobani Chavez. All five shots came in the second half.

Kilgore goalkeeper Chris Martinez had two saves.

The Greyhounds had three shots, all in the first half. Boerne goalkeeper Ben Niedeoken had one save.

Each team had four corner kicks.

Starters for Kilgore were GK Martinez, midfielder Jose Vazquez, defender Leandro Yzaguirre, forward Adan Reyes, forward Rojas, midfielder Jacob Contreras, midfielder Rodriguez, forward Salazzar, defender Chavez, defender Chris Perez and defender Jorge Aleman.

Substitutes were Jordy Velasquez, Javier Villanueva, Gustavo Trejo, Peyton Roberts and Jose Gonzalez.

Kilgore was appearing in its fifth state tournament (2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2024). The Bulldogs won the state title in 2017.

Boerne was also apearing in its fifth state tourney (2002, 2006, 2021, 2022, 2024). The Greyhounds won state titles in 2006, 2021 and 2022.
