Tyler surgeon Dr. Kevin Pauza founded Discseel (R)Technologies after discovering a new procedure.

Tyler resident Carrie Wright sought care for her neck and arm pain. She talked to two spine surgeons and they said her only option was spine fusion surgery, the same surgery that caused her grandmother’s death. She looked elsewhere and found Pauza who was able to use Discseel(R) procedure and treat her, Pauza said.

Pauza discovered fibrin, which heals scrapes, also heals spine degeneration and bulged discs. He has done the procedure for 17 years.

“[The procedure] benefits patients by healing and growing new spinal disc tissue, allowing patients to avoid repeating injections and spine surgery,” Pauza said. “This is probably why it’s a favorite procedure of professional athletes and others not wanting surgery. Occasionally, spine surgery is necessary to treat spine pain, but surgery isn’t always the best option.”

Wright is now CEO of Discseel(R) Technologies in Tyler. The procedure is FDA approved and recently became patented. It is the only regenerative medicine procedure that is patented. It can grow spine disc tissue and no other has met the criteria for patents, according to Pauza.

Pauza came to Tyler after a mentor advised him to come to Tyler to train with a surgeon. “‘Kevin, before teaching, go to this small, unknown town you’ve never heard of, it’s named Tyler,’” Pauza said his mentor told him. “‘Go there because there’s a doctor doing incredible spine research not being done anywhere else.’” He is still in Tyler almost 30 years later.
