John Tyler and Robert E. Lee will hit the pitch on Tuesday for the crosstown rivals only scheduled soccer match this season.


The squads are scheduled to play at the REL soccer field with the varsity kicking off at 7:15 p.m.

The Lions are 5-2-1 having finished the Duncanville Classic at 3-0-1 (9-0 over North Crowley, 2-1 over Fort Worth Paschal, 1-1 tie with host Duncanville, 2-0 over Odessa Permian).

The Red Raiders are 3-2-1 on the season, having won three straight games in the Longview Invitational (5-1 over Henderson, 2-0 over Forney, 6-2 over Lindale).

The freshmen are slated to play at 4 p.m., followed by the JV at 5:30 p.m.

All Saints game time changes

Times for the Tuesday basketball games between All Saints and Arlington Grace Prep at Brookshire Gym have changed, Eddie Francis, All Saints athletic director, said.

The girls varsity will play at 5 p.m. with the boys varsity following at 6:30 p.m.  The JV boys game has been canceled.   

TJC Basketball

The Tyler Junior College Apaches meet Houston Basketball Prep Academy in a non-conference basketball game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wagstaff Gymnasium.

The Apaches are 12-3 on the season and 3-3 in Region XIV Conference. TJC returns to league play on Saturday, hosting Navarro College at 4 p.m.

The No. 16 Apache Ladies (13-3, 4-1) are in action on Wednesday, traveling to Carthage to meet Panola (8-7, 4-1) in a conference game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. 

The Apache Ladies will be home on Saturday, meeting rival Kilgore College at 2 p.m.

TC Lady Steers split pair

The Texas College Lady Steers split a pair of Red River Athletic Conference basketball games over the weekend at Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium.

TC (4-11, 2-5) won over Jarvis Christian College (75-72) and lost a close one to Wiley (71-68).

The game with Wiley (5-10, 3-4) on Saturday was close throughout. 

Tameal Jones, a 5-5 senior guard from Tyler, led the Lady Steers with 22 points, followed by Paris Townsend (17) and Jazmyne Hicks (11).

Others scoring for TC were Aulexus Pickens (5), Taylor Crabtree (5), Ahshakia White (3), Myeea Ford (2), Jada Calloway (2) and Dejah Stewart (1).

Townsend had a double-double as she added 10 rebounds.

Brianna Tolliver led the Wildcats with 35 points and 13 rebounds. Damonica Franklin had 12 points and 16 boards with Lamaza Colquitt adding 10 points.

On Friday, the Lady Steers rallied in the second half, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 43-30 to take the win.

Crabtree led the Lady Steers with 18 points. She also had eight rebounds. Pickens had 15 points and seven boards with Ford adding 12 points. Townsend had nine points and nine rebounds.

Others scoring for TC were Stewart (7), Hicks (6), Jones (4), White (3) and Calloway (1). 

Nyesha Fisher led the Lady Bulldogs (0-17, 0-7) with 26 points and 10 steals. Berjae Lewis had 20 points and Jandice Jackson added 10 rebounds.

TC returns to play this weekend, hosting Huston-Tillotson (5:30 p.m. Friday) and St. Thomas of Houston (5 p.m. Saturday).

Steers drop two close games

The Texas College Steers played two rivals on the Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium court over the weekend.

On Friday, Jarvis Christian College, from Hawkins, edged the Steers 93-90 in overtime.

After trailing 39-29 at halftime, the Steers stormed back to force OT, tying the game at 81-81. However the Bulldogs won the extra period 12-9.

Jerry Murphy led the Steers with 24 points and five assists. Christian Bryant added 21 points. Others scoring for TC were Lazarus Williams (9), Dominique Phelgm (9), Rontrell Randle (7), Lyndon James (6 points, 8 rebounds),  Tristian Eagans (4), Godsen Osioh (4), Trevon Donnell (2), Dzifa Mallet (2) and Michael Walker (2). 

Chasten King led the Bulldogs (6-8, 3-4) with 27 points. Others in double figures were Lee Lincoln (17) and Jerryon Johnson (14).

On Saturday, No. 12 Wiley held off TC 79-65.

Murphy led the Steers (3-16, 1-6) with 19 points, followed by Williams (17). Others scoring for TC were Walker (8), Bryant (6), Donnell (4), James (4), Mallet (4) and Randle (3).

Lord Akah had a double-double for the Wildcats (13-3, 5-2) with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Joshua Hamilton led Wylie, of Marshall, with 17 points with Traylin Prejean adding 16.

TC returns to play this weekend, hosting Huston-Tillotson (7:30 p.m. Friday) and St. Thomas of Houston (7 p.m. Saturday).

Gary edges Alto

GARY — The Gary Bobcats edged the Alto Yellow Jackets 49-45 on Friday in a District 21-2A boys basketball game.

Fred Thacker led Alto (5-11, 0-1) with 18 points. He ws followed by Skyler Atkins (10), Jay Pope (6), Bubba Mumphrey (5), Will Dixon (3), Kurrinsi Jackson (2) and Keithen Jenkins (1).

Alto returns to action on Tuesday at Mount Enterprise with three games (JV Boys, Varsity Girls, Varsity Boys) starting at 5 p.m.
