An early morning fire was extinguished by Tyler firefighters Monday morning resulting in a home being saved.

Tyler Fire Marshal Paul Findley said the department was dispatched to a structure fire in a residence at 1716 E. Gentry on Monday at 5:24 a.m.

The first arriving units reported active fire in the residence and immediately sounded a second alarm.

Findley said five engines and one ladder company, along with a district chief responded to the scene.

“Firefighters successfully contained the fire to the room of origin, taking approximately 30 minutes to gain control of the fire. Moderate fire damage was limited to the room of origin, while the rest of the home sustained minor smoke damage,” he said.

Findley said the home was occupied at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported.  Firefighters believe the fire was unintentional and originated in a bedroom area where a child was working on a craft project.
