7-year-old boy shot in leg in Texas domestic dispute

AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — Amarillo police say an armed man had tried shooting a woman while she was sleeping in her bed with her 7-year-old son, but the child was struck instead by the gunfire.
Police say the boy was shot in the leg and was taken to a local hospital, where his condition wasn’t immediately known.
Authorities say the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute. The suspect entered the home early Monday and attempted to shoot the woman.
Police say a teenager sleeping in another room heard a gunshot, rushed inside the bedroom and struggled with the man. The teenager wrestled the gun away from the man and threw it outside.
The suspect fled in a pickup truck, but was arrested several hours later.
An investigation is ongoing.
