AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Detectives with the Travis County sheriff’s office are investigating after an Austin couple says thieves swiped more than $200,000 in valuables, including 45 guns, from their home while they were away on vacation.

Joe Lohmeier and his girlfriend returned home Sunday also to find $54,000 in cash and a rare coin collection missing. A $34,000 engagement ring that 42-year-old Lohmeier planned to give his girlfriend was unaccounted for as well.

Lohmeier, a vice president of sales for a high-tech company, says he’s collected guns since he was a young boy. He buys assault rifles as an investment but doesn’t fire them. His guns, including 15 semi-automatic assault weapons, were stored in a gun safe.

Lohmeier suspects someone had broken into their home through a window.
