Riegel, Gorman cruise past Shelton, 12-2

The Bishop Gorman baseball team learned one of baseball’s old dugout traditions on Tuesday afternoon in a 12-2 TAPPS 2-4A win over Dallas Shelton at Chrietzberg Field.

For 2 2-3 innings, pitcher Josh Riegel had a perfect game until somebody in the dugout said those ill-fated words.

“You have a no-hitter,” came from the dugout and two pitches later the visitors had their first hit from the opposing pitcher, Brandon Reeves.

After the game, BG head coach Paige Hodges explained to his young team the key words never spoken while your pitcher is rolling with either a perfect game or no-hitter.

It mattered little however, as Riegel settled in on the mound for a five-inning, complete-game three-hitter, striking out nine. At the plate, Riegel slapped out a 3-for-4 day with a double, scoring two runs and knocking in two scores.

Teammate Michael Guzman was key going 2 for 3 at the dish, driving in three runs and scoring three times.

The same two teams will play again on Friday, however the Crusaders will trek to Dallas for the 5 p.m. first pitch.
