The UT Dallas pitching staff held the Patriots in check once again on Tuesday in game three of their American Southwest Conference baseball series in Richardson.
The Comets scored a 9-2 victory over UT Tyler (14-8, 10-5) to complete the sweep. On Monday, UTD won 1-0 and 2-1. Before the three-game losing streak, the Patriots had won seven straight.
UT Dallas (11-10, 8-4) once again struck first and early in the game, scoring in the bottom of the first inning on a Brandon George RBI single.
The Comets’ lead moved to 2-0 in the second inning as Jimmy Norris knocked in a run with a single to left field, scoring one, before Wesley Gill was thrown out at home plate.
In the fifth, George continued his stellar series, blasting a two-run home run to left field, making the score 4-0.
UT Dallas would score five more runs in the sixth, highlighted by another George RBI, and a two-run single by Pierce Fly, making the score 9-0 Comets.
The Patriots got on the board in their last at-bat as a wild pitch allowed Garrett Nelson to score to make it 9-1. Derick Smith added the second and final run of the game for the Patriots on a groundout, scoring Sam Lane.
Seven UT Tyler pitchers saw time in the series finale, with Cade Suggs picking up the loss, while UTD’s Aaron Bach picked up the win.
Reid Coover had a three-hit game, while senior Buddy McCoy had two hits on the day.
UT Tyler will now return home to the friendly confines of Irwin Field as the Patriots prepare to host Hardin-Simmons in a three-game series beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. A doubleheader is set for Saturday with games scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
