Patriots drop two to UTD

RICHARDSON — The UT Tyler bats were silent on Monday as the Patriots dropped a baseball doubleheader to rival UT Dallas at the Comets’ diamond.

The Comets won 1-0 and 2-1.


In game one, UT Tyler (14-7, 10-4 American Southwest Conference) managed just two hits against Comets’ starter Tyler Dauer, both of which came in the top of the fifth inning.

Kevan House led off the inning with a single, but was thrown out at home plate on a single by Douglas Kinsey.

The Comets scored the lone run in the bottom of the sixth on a Brandon George sacrifice fly.

UT Tyler starter Jamie Paxton was stellar in the loss, totaling six strikeouts while allowing just four hits and one earned run in seven innings pitched.

In game two, Alex Bishop gave the Patriots their first run of the series on a single to right, scoring Logan Tucker to give UT Tyler the 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

UT Dallas answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs. The first came on a George single.

A batter later, Brandon Clounch gave the Comets the 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly, giving UTD starter Brandon Lee all the runs support he would need.

Lee would close out the complete-game win allowing just six hits and one earned run in nine ininings pitched.

UT Tyler starter Cason Adams was strong in the loss, pitching eight innings and finishing with seven strikeouts while allowing just one earned run.

The Patriots and Comets (10-10) will close out the three-game series a 1 p.m. game Tuesday.
