No. 2 Rockwall blanks Lady Raiders; REL baseball beats Lakeview

Robert E. Lee was 24 hours removed from its most lopsided win in years, but No. 2 Rockwall did not seem to care.
The Lady Jackets broke through with runs on two-out hits in the middle innings before erupting for eight in the top of the fifth to deal the Lady Raiders an 11-0 loss Tuesday at Faulkner Park. The game was called after the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule.
Rockwall’s Kindal Sauter led the way for the visitors, going 3 for 3 with a single, double and inside-the-park homer to finish with two runs and three RBIs.
The loss dropped REL to 2-4 in District 11-6A while Rockwall (10-0-1, 6-0) remained undefeated.
Lee ran roughshod over North Garland Monday, scoring 27 runs and pounding out 17 hits.
Rockwall pitcher Emily Cowan allowed one baserunner Tuesday with REL’s Brittany Hogge singling up the middle in the fourth inning.
“She was painting the corners and she was bringing it, and compared to what we saw at North Garland it was completely different,” Lee coach Maggie Stephenson said. “But we didn’t make the adjustments we needed to make and they did, and they flat-out outplayed us.”
Makenna Aycok took the loss, allowing 11 runs, eight of them earned, on 10 hits with five walks and three strikeouts.
The Lady Raiders starting catcher is out for the season and the backup is now academically ineligible. REL moved a JV catcher up a few weeks ago, but she suffered a concussion.
This meant someone unfamiliar with the position would be behind the plate and Rockwall took advantage with three stolen bases while also benefiting from three passed balls.
Rockwall put constant pressure on REL thanks to two-out and in many cases two-strike hitting. With two outs in the top of the first, Rockwall used back-to-back singles to put runners at second and third.
Aycock got the next batter to ground out and end the threat.
In the second inning, Aycock looked to have battled out of trouble again when Sauter stepped up and faced a 3-2 count with a runner at second base and two outs. But Sauter went the other way with an Aycok offering, powering it into left field for an RBI single.
In the fourth with the score still 1-0, Sauter again came through for the Lady Jackets. With two outs and runners at second and third, she smacked a liner into left field. REL’s left fielder attempted to race in and make the catch, but the ball got behind her, enabling Sauter to come all the way around for a home run.
“They had a few big hits that really hurt us,” Stephenson said. “I thought we played a great first three or four innings, but that fifth killed us.”
After Hogge got Lee’s lone hit of the contest in the bottom of the fourth, Rockwall batted around in the fifth, scoring enough runs to put the run-rule into effect.

GARLAND — Robert E. Lee scored early and often Monday evening to defeat North Garland 27-0 in three innings.
The game was called after the third because of the 15-run rule.
Hogge led REL offensively with a single, double and five RBIs. Also enjoying strong nights at the plate for the Lady Raiders were Maleigha Leach (two singles, double, three RBIs) and DeAsia Gilbert (single, triple, three RBIs).
Makenna Aycock allowed one North Garland batter to reach base and that occurred because of a catcher’s interference.

Sophmore Parker Bramlett went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and five RBIs as Robert E. Lee defeated Lakeview Centennial 9-2 Tuesday at Garland Lakeview HS.
Lee was edged out 2-1 on Monday by Rockwall and neither team could break through in the first three innings.
Bramlett’s three-run double was part of a four-run fourth inning. He added a two-run triple in the seventh.
Jacob Kuehn was also strong at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
“This is a tough stretch with back-to-back road games, but we were able to bounce back tonight and get a big win,” Lee coach David Howard said. “Bramlett had some big extra-base hits with runners in scoring position and anytime we get those, it’s a huge positive for the offense.”
Daniel Bogue posted the win on the mound, going six innings and allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts.
The victory gave REL a 2-1 record in District 11-6A as the Red Raiders return home Friday to face Garland with a first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. at Mike Carter Field.
