GILMER — City police are seeking information on a Sunday night shooting which injured a 19-year-old Longview man in a west Gilmer parking lot, Police Chief Mark Case said Monday.
The man, whose name was not released, is in satisfactory condition at Longview Regional Medical Center, where he is scheduled to undergo surgery today, Case said.
The man is believed to have gone to an almost entirely-vacant shopping center at the intersection of FM Road 49 and Texas 154 to sell narcotics, Case said. While he was waiting in a pickup with two other persons, someone approached the vehicle and opened fire with a pistol of unknown caliber, striking the victim once in the face, the chief said.
The victim and his companions traveled to Longview, where they called to request an ambulance and were told to go to a Walmart parking lot on Texas 300, Case said. After they arrived, Longview police and the ambulance responded, and the man was transported to Longview Regional, the chief said. The shooter is believed to be a male and police have a “person of interest” in the case, but no arrests have been made, Case said.
Longview police informed Gilmer police about 11:30 p.m. Sunday that a man who had been shot in Gilmer was in Longview, said the chief. Gilmer police investigator Casey Driggers went to Longview, made contact with someone in the vehicle to gather information, and then went to the hospital and contacted the victim, Case said.
Investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Upshur County Crimestoppers at (903) 843-3131, he said.
