BULLARD — The No. 14-ranked Tyler Junior College softball team kept its conference roll on, taking a doubleheader sweep over Bossier Parish Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Schwab Field on the Brook Hill School campus.
Chapel Hill’s Halie Vance picked up two wins, throwing four strong innings in the 9-0 win in Game 1. Vance came back in trailing in Game 2, taking the mound in the fourth inning before the Apaches rallied for an 8-4 win.
“We had two good days back-to-back and the girls did a great job of coming back off two games yesterday, stayed focused and stuck with it in the last game to come back for a big win for us,” TJC coach Nicole Dickson said. “Halie Vance did a great job throwing for us in both games and Halle Sabo had a great day at the plate for us.”
TJC (25-7, 5-1 Region XIV) will trek to Corsicana on Saturday to take on Navarro College in a conference doubleheader with a first pitch set for 1 p.m.
“Navarro has got a good team that has a pitcher that was all-region last season,” Dickson said. “But we have a few days to get out legs back, and we will try to keep getting better, and try to keep things going our way.”
GAME 1
Vance struck out six, walked none and scattered out two hits in her four inning of the 9-0, mercy-run rule shortened win.
Sabo had the big blow of the game in the second inning, jacking a grand slam for one of 10 hits by TJC.
Madison Langston went 2 for 2 with a stolen base to lead the offense. Catcher Amber Landry and Jaclyn Molenaar were both 2 for 3. Molenaar drove in two runs.
Ashlee Gibson came on to throw the final inning, striking out one to close out the game.
GAME 2
TJC trailed 4-1 after four innings following a rocky start.
Back-to-back walks to Haley Mills and Molenaar started the fifth stanza before four straight hits with one out turned the tide.
Sabo added to her 3 for 4 showing with a two-run double to start the rally. Landry and Marina Duran each singled before Ashlin Roach ripped an RBI double for a 5-4 lead.
TJC added on three more runs in the final at-bat in the sixth inning to seal the sweep.
Khandi Breaux drew the start, giving way to Gibson in the fourth inning before Vance came back in to close out the game and the win.
