Young girls win 34th Rose City Chili Cookoff

Five little cooks all under the age of twleve took home the first place people’s choice award during the The 34th Rose City Chili Cookoff. The chili cookoff was held Saturday, March 7 behind Gander Mountain in Tyler. The team of girls, “Longino’s Bail Out Chili”, range in age from 3 to 11. The team members are Caitlyn Pickett 11, Jolie McChesney 5, Heather Longina 5, Alexa Pickett 3, and Katelyn McChesney 3. There were 51 CASI cooks, six junior cooks, and 12 people’s choice teams involved in Saturday’s chili cookoff. The event benefitted The Spirit of St. Louis Therapeutic Riding Center for special needs teens and adults to interact with specially trained horses. According to cook off organizer, Blu Daniels, the event raised more than $2500 for the charity.
