Agents with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission are looking into whether the driver charged in connection to a fatal two-car collision in Flint had been served alcohol at local bars after he was intoxicated.

Carl Crabtree is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter. Troopers said his Dodge pick-up crossed over to the wrong side of the road, and ran head-on into a vehicle driven by Brook Hill School employee Dana Regester on March 4. Regester was killed instantly. International student Pasha Zapolosky died later at a local hospital.

The agents are trying to determine where Crabtree may have been drinking before the crash, and whether he was served after he appeared to be intoxicated. If that’s the case, the bars themselves could face administrative charges. The people who served him at those bars could also face criminal charges.

“We’ve actually retrieved surveillance video of him leaving some of the locations we actually know that he came from and then our focus after that is going to be interview witnesses and bartenders and try to determine how many drinks he was served,” said Sgt. Marcus Stokke, with the TABC’s Enforcement Division.

In an arrest affidavit obtained by CBS 19, DPS Troopers found open and closed containers of alcohol inside Crabtree’s vehicle.

Sgt. Stokke said Crabtree had been cooperating with the investigation so far. It could take several weeks to come up with the findings.
