The 10th Annual Don R. Pinkerton Memorial Charity Golf Tournament & Ladies’ Games Day to benefit The Salvation Army is scheduled for April 6 at The Cascades Golf Club.
The golfers will hit the greens and the ladies will set up their Mah Jongg and Bridge tables to benefit The Salvation Army in Tyler.
Golf and Ladies’ Games Day teams must pre-register by contacting Pat Pinkerton at 903-592-7166. On tournament day, team check-in begins at 11 a.m. This will also be the last chance to purchase raffle item tickets and golf balls for the helicopter ball drop which will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Ladies’ Games Day will begin at 1:30 p.m. The four-person scramble tee time begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
“This tournament sells out every year so we are anticipating some good and healthy competition,” Pat Pinkerton, tournament director, said.
During the event there will be a silent auction of items donated by local businesses in the Tyler community. All funds raised go directly to support the many programs and services The Salvation Army provides for the East Texas community.
Don Pinkerton was an advocate for the less fortunate in our community and the services provided to them by The Salvation Army. In his honor, Pat Pinkerton annually hosts this tournament, continually funding the programs and services that he loved.
“Unfortunately, the number of people seeking assistance through our programs and services, many for the first time in their lives, continues to increase, and it is due to the generosity and support of the Tyler community that we are able to continue helping the less fortunate get back on their feet,” said Major Ben Lawrence, Commanding Officer for The Salvation Army in Tyler.
To date, $327,591.20 has been raised at the annual tournament. The support of the Tyler community, including the individual players, donors and companies that donated money or goods has made it possible for this impressive sum of money to get to the people who need it most.
