SELECTED

Jeffrey Levin, MD, MSPH, senior vice president for Clinical and Academic Affairs, Chair of the Department of Occupational Health Sciences, Program Director of the Occupational Medicine Residency and dean, School of Community Health and Health Professions, has been selected to serve as a board member and chair of the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) board of directors. His term begins in August.


 

CREDIT UNION

Scott Rose, CEO of Kelly Community Federal Credit Union, will leave in late March to become CEO at Alliance Federal Credit Union in Lubbock. During Rose’s 18-year tenure, Kelly Community has grown from a one office, single sponsor credit union of $38 million in assets with less than 5,000 members to in excess of $100 million in assets with as many as four branches and over 10,000 accounts. Michelle Small will assume the CEO position after 12 years with Kelly.

 

AGENTS

Kim Braly and Cynthia Swanson with Threlkeld & Company Insurance and Judith Robinson of Citizens Financial Group attended The National Association of Health Underwriters Capitol Conference in Washington, D.C. The conference provided the opportunity to learn more about healthcare reform and its impact on healthcare consumers.

 

HONORED

East Texas Medical Center recently honored Julia Bell and Edna Daly for their years of service. Bell celebrated 50 years and Daly 45 years. In all 96 team members were honored with pins for years of service ranging from 10 years to 50 years. Cubbie Dorsey, Linda Hartsfield and Eula Lyles, nursing service employees, retired. In addition, Veronica Casals and Gaye Gallimore were recognized for great customer service. ETMC President and CEO Elmer G. Ellis is pictured with the honorees.

 

RANKED

Amy Maxwell was recently ranked the second most powerful “2015 Rising Star” lobbyist in the state by Capitol Inside. Ms. Maxwell owns an Austin-based lobby practice, providing legal, legislative and regulatory representation for independent oil and gas companies. CLINIC

ETMC First Physicians is now offering an express clinic with walk-in urgent care at ETMC South Broadway.

The express clinic is located at 6210 S. Broadway and will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Any patient with a need is welcome and you don’t need to be established with an ETMC physician to seek treatment. MERGER

Bird Forestry and The Crawford Forestry Group have merged to create Bird & Crawford Forestry, a division of Advanced Ecology, Ltd. Mike Bird and Sam D. Crawford will serve as principals of this new consulting venture. The new company will provide a full range of quality professional forest management services. The venture brings together a strong and seasoned leadership team of foresters, biologists and land management professionals. As a division of Advanced Ecology, Ltd., Bird & Crawford Forestry will also be able to draw upon natural resource management assets including environmental consulting, mitigation banking and wildlife management.

 

LOSS

Southside Bancshares, Inc. reported a net loss of $3.9 million for the three months ended Dec. 31, 2014, a decrease of $16.1 million, or 132.4 percent, when compared to net income of $12.2 million for the same period in 2013. The net loss for the fourth quarter is a result of recording approximately $14.8 million of merger-related expenses in connection with the acquisition of OmniAmerican Bancorp, Inc. and a loss of approximately $4.5 million due to the completion of the sale of subprime automobile loans purchased by SFG Finance, LLC.

The East Texas Oilfield Expo is now the Ark-La-Tex Oilfield Expo and will take place April 1 and 2 at the Shreveport Convention Center.
