SAN ANTONIO — The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs are state champions again.

Led by 29 points from tournament most valuable player Cheyenne Brown, Martins Mill defeated Gruver 49-36 Saturday afternoon in the Class 2A girls championship held at the Alamodome.

This is the fourth state title for Martins Mill, which was making its ninth trip to state in the past 10 years.

Coach Laura Jenkins brings the Lady Mustangs their first state title since 2008.

Martins Mill (31-7) led 20-13 at halftime and held off numerous comeback attempts by Gruver in the second half.

The closest Gruver (31-6) got to Martins Mill was three points twice at 30-27 and 32-29 early in the fourth quarter.

A 3-pointer by sophomore Hailey Celsur pushed the lead back to six points, 35-29, and Martins Mill never looked back.
