Patriots stay unbeaten

BROWNWOOD — The No. 7 UT Tyler Patriots stayed unbeaten by sweeping Howard Payne on Friday in an American Southwest Conference doubleheader at Lady Jacket Park.

The Patriots (12-0, 8-0 ASC) scored 6-0 and 13-0 wins over the Lady Jackets (4-8, 2-6).


The two teams play again Saturday, beginning at noon.

Kelsie Batten (7-0) was a star in the circle in game one, going seven innings while striking out nine and allowing only two hits and just one walk.

Raven Rodriguez, Shelby Shelton and Vanessa Carrizales each had two hits apiece, while Kristin Lopez, Jackie Mendez, Whitney Burt, Lexi Ackroyd and Christa Hartnett each had hits.

Carrizales and Burt each had two RBIs, while Rodriguez and Mendez had one apiece.

Erin McLeod and Cherita George had the only hits for the Lady Jackets.

In the second game, Alaina Kissinger (5-0) threw a one-hitter, striking out 11 in the five-inning game. She did not walk a batter.

The Patriots pounded out 13 hits, led by Rodriguez and Shelton who were 3 for 4 at the plate. They both had two RBIs.

Shelton had a double and a triple, while Lopez and Ackroyd each had doubles.

Mendez, Lopez, Mel Hinojosa and Ackroyd each had two hits, while Carrizales, KK Stevens and Hartnett had single hits.

Adding RBIs were Carrizales (2), Lopez (2),Ackroyd (3), Stevens (1) and Harnett (1).
