Smith County authorities will be joining forces with other agencies across the state on Saturday in the largest warrant round-up of people who have not settled debts with the county.

According to a news release by the Smith County Judicial Compliance Office, anyone with outstanding court costs and fines where a warrant has been issued has until Friday to pay.

“Smith County is combining forces with other jurisdictions across Texas to participate in the largest joint warrant round-up of this type in the state,” according to the news release. “On March 7, officers will begin visiting homes, neighborhoods and places of work to arrest anyone who has not settled their debt with the county.”

Sherryl Keel, supervisor for the department, said more than 4,000 bright pink notices were mailed out recently to individuals with active warrants for delinquent fees in Smith County. Individuals, who come to the Judicial Compliance Department and pay their debt in full before Friday, will not be arrested.

“Save yourself the expense and embarrassment of being picked up during the warrant round-up,” Ms. Keel said. “Call the Smith County Judicial Compliance Department to pay your outstanding fees today.”

The Smith County Courts have hundreds of active warrants that court officials want to clear.

County officials are encouraging defendants to take advantage of the options available to settle outstanding warrants immediately.

No amnesty is being offered in conjunction with the round-up effort.
