It was the second time in three days that Robert E. Lee and Forney met on the Mike Carter Field diamond.

This bout went to the visitors.

Forney used an errant throw by Lee to score two runs in the top of the sixth and stop the Red Raiders 4-2 Saturday at the Rose City Classic.

The teams had met Thursday in the RCC with REL winning in run-rule fashion, 12-2.

The rematch was called after six innings because of time limit.

The loss is Lee’s (2-1) first this season while Forney (1-3) notched its first win.

REL junior Jonathan McGown pitched a scoreless first inning before Jonathan Randall entered in the second. Randall takes the loss, surrendered a run in the second and three unearned runs in the sixth.

“I thought JR did a good job of keeping us in the game and that is what you want in this situation,” Lee coach David Howard said. “Offensively we missed some opportunities and struck out entirely too much to try and put together anything.”

Forney senior JT Gonzalez gets the win after coming on in the fourth inning of a 2-1 deficit and blanking REL in his three innings.

The Jackrabbits led 1-0 entering the third when REL answered with two runs to go in front.

A leadoff walk to Jakob Romines began things. Romines went to second on a passed ball and scored on an RBI single from Parker Bates.

Bates was thrown out trying to steal second, but REL continued its surge with a single from Parker Bramlett who was eventually driven in by Garrett Hudson’s single.

Those were thee of four combined hits Lee had in the loss.

Forney took the lead in the sixth when back to back singles put runners at the corners.

A ground ball gave REL a chance to turn a double play. The Red Raiders got the force at second, but an errant throw allowed not only the runner from third to score, but the runner was safe at first came all the way around to score.

Forney tacked on anoter for the 4-2 final

The Red Raiders will be in Forney on Thursday for Day 1 of the Forney Tournament. Lee is scheduled to face North Forney.

Raider Rap: Other Day 3 scores from the RCC were: Hallsville 4, Carthage 0; Atlanta 8, Hallsville 0; Lufkin 3, Atlanta 1 and Nacogdoches 10, Sulphur Springs 4.
