Get ready to crank it up to 11: Tyler Record & CD Expo Saturday

About 40 vendors are expected at the Tyler Record & CD Expo set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Magnuson Hotel, 3310 Troup Highway, organizers said.
Admission is $3.
Last year, about 800 attended the inaugural expo. George Jones, the event’s promoter, said he hopes that twice as many will attend this year.
Vinyl is growing in popularity, especially among a younger generation looking for a way to listen to classics such as Led Zeppelin, Rush or Johnny Cash, Jones said.
“People are discovering that with these old songs prior to 1985 … were recorded for vinyl,” he said. “They were meant to be played on vinyl. That whole sound and the way it was mixed was specifically for vinyl, so when you transfer that to a digital medium it loses something in translation.
“If you want to hear Pink Floyd like Pink Floyd was meant to be heard — or Elvis or The Beatles or any of those guys — it has got to be on vinyl, otherwise you’re just not getting it,” Jones said.
The selection at the expo will be huge.
“I don’t know a single person on this planet who doesn’t like music in some form or fashion — classical, rap, country, rock, soul, R&B, whatever, it is going to be there,” Jones said.
