The University of Texas at Tyler will offer various travel study and study abroad opportunities for UT Tyler students within the spring and summer semesters, Dr. Teresa Kennedy, Office of International Programs executive director, announced.
Organized and led by UT Tyler faculty, travel study courses vary in length — typically occurring during vacation periods and the summer term — and oftentimes visiting collaborating universities.
“The OIP is very excited about all of the travel destinations and scholarship opportunities available to UT Tyler students interested in travel study and study abroad programs,” Kennedy said.
University Studies Abroad Consortium representatives will be available to discuss opportunities for students 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the UT Tyler University Center.
UT Tyler’s upcoming travel study programs include: Israel, March 5 to 16; Turkey March 5 to 16; and Transcultural Health & Humanities: Taiwan Immersion, May 2 to 23.
These opportunities will be available in the short summer term: Belize for Educators, June 14 to 21; and Costa Rica Spanish Immersion, July 12 to Aug. 1.
“Potential travel study programs currently in the planning stages include service learning opportunities in Costa Rica and Cambodia, as well as summer trips to Belize to conduct archaeological research, to England for a communications program and to Spain for business and education programs. UT Tyler also collaborates with Tyler Junior College on many study abroad opportunities,” Kennedy added.
UT Tyler is an active member of the University Studies Abroad Consortium. USAC is a non-profit consortium consisting of 33 U.S. member universities and many affiliates from universities around the world. USAC maintains study abroad locations in 25 countries and offers study abroad scholarships to students attending its member and affiliated universities.
