After suffering their first loss on Wednesday, the Tyler Junior College Apaches were ready to get back on the diamond.
Cody Brown pitched 5 1/3 innings, striking out seven and allowing one earned run, as the Apaches scored an 8-2 win over Vernon College Thursday at Mike Carter Field.
The teams have a scheduled doubleheader today. The starting time for game one was moved from noon to 11 a.m., TJC coach Doug Wren said. He said the time was changed to hopefully allow the teams to play before the expected rains.
TJC (9-1) lost 6-0 to Brookhaven on Wednesday in Farmers Branch.
For the Apaches, Tim Hunter was 1 for 3 with three runs scored, while Zane Otten was 3 for 4. Aaron Clemons had a triple and single with two RBIs.
Also, Jacob Hickman had two hits for TJC, while Jared Pauley, Gunnar Quick and Cam Reeves each had a single and an RBI.
PJ Garcia was 4 for 4 for the Chaparrals. Vernon (4-4) totaled five hits.
