Patriots sweep Vermont school

The No. 6-ranked UT Tyler softball team scored a doubleheader sweep of the College of St. Joseph (Vermont) on a chilly Tuesday afternoon at Suddenlink Field on Tuesday.

The Patriots (7-0) scored 18-0 and 15-0 victories.


It was the first games of the season for the Saints, who are making a swing through Texas this week.

UT Tyler finished the day with eye-popping stats, totaling 33 runs and 35 hits in the 10 innings. The Patriots only gave up three hits.

In game one, 23 Patriots saw playing time as their offense blasted 18 hits.

Raven Rodriguez led the way with a 3 for 3 game with three RBIs. 

Mel Hinojosa had a three-run homer, while Shelby Shelton added a triple. Rodriguez, Jenna Blythe, Kristin Lopez and Lexi Ackroyd each had doubles.

Kelsie Batten (4-0) pitched three innings in the circle for the win, striking out five and not allowing a hit. Abby Walker and Sam Rodriguez each pitched an inning.

Lindsey Reinhart had the lone hit for the Saints.

In game two, Lopez and KK Stevens each hit home runs for the Patriots.

Providing doubles were Raven Rodriguez, Hannah Moore, Jackie Mendez, Kelsie McEachern and Erica Jordan.

Amanda Lopez and Jordan each had two hits for the Patriots. Stevens had three RBIs to lead UT Tyler.

Emily Johnson and Krysta Konderwich had the Saints’ two hits.

Alaina Kissinger (3-0) pitched three innings to gain the win. She struck out four.

Camrie Helm and Abby Walker pitched an inning apiece for the Patriots as well.

The Patriots will hit the road for the first time this season on Friday as they head to Abilene for a three-game series against Hardin-Simmons, beginning at noon on Friday.
