AUSTIN — The Bullard Brook Hill Lady Guard fell behind by two goals 15 minutes into the game but showed the heart of the two-time defending champion that they are to rally for a 3-2 victory over Austin St. Dominic Savio on Saturday.

The Lady Guard, who won two state titles in TAPPS Division III, now advance to the TAPPS Division II area playoffs against district rival and league champion Grace Community. That game will kick off at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Clyde-Perkins Stadium.

“We’re road warriors,” Brook Hill coach David Collins said. “The way we handled ourselves on the road … battled back and showed some maturity as a team to get a win when we didn’t play our best soccer today on the road.

“I’m real proud of their efforts and looking forward to the next round.”

Looking for a way back into the game after the slow start, defender Ari Assad scored off a corner kick from Katherine Stair right before halftime to make it 2-1.

Stair then tied it four minutes into the second half on an unassisted goal.

Hope Cooper scored the game-winner with 20 minutes left to send Brook Hill into the next round.

Heather McClary made nine saves in goal for the Lady Guard.

Collins’ other team, the Brook Hill boys, received a bye in the first round after winning the district title. The Guard will host Austin Regents in the area playoffs at 5 p.m. Wednesday from Herrington Stadium.
