SAN ANTONIO (AP) — South Texas authorities say one woman is dead and another is hurt after their truck fell more than 50 feet from an overpass on U.S. Highway 281.
San Antonio police say two people were inside a pickup truck traveling southbound on the highway on Thursday afternoon. They say the vehicle struck a guardrail and rode along the barrier before flipping over the side of the overpass into a creek bed below.
The driver, whose identity wasn’t released, died in the crash. The female passenger was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. Police believe both women are in their early- to mid-20s.
The San Antonio News-Express reported multiple southbound lanes were closed for several hours and traffic was backed up for miles. State transportation officials say all lanes have been re-opened.
