City Manager Edward Broussard’s first day Monday was a blur of meetings, and the new city leader will have a busy first week ahead.
Monday was Broussard’s first day as city manager. He will sit in on his first Tyler City Council meeting on Wednesday and then attend a meet and greet with the public that evening.
After a three-month-long search, Broussard, 42, was named the new city manager at a specially called meeting in late December. His annual salary will be $190,000, plus health benefits.
He has said the main attraction to the city was its collaborative spirit, but Broussard could not be reached for comment Monday.
“The beautiful thing about Tyler is the community is already talking with each other, and now, to slip into that and to get to be a part of that, and involved in an active community where those discussions are occurring, is something I’m very excited about,” he said in December.
Broussard said he also was impressed with community members, nonprofit organizations and churches and their desire to help make the city a better place without a heavy reliance on the city government for funding and guidance.
Broussard’s experience includes serving as city manager of Hutto from 2005 to 2011; city manager of Navasota from 2001 to 2005; assistant city manager of Woodway from 2000 to 2001; assistant to the city manager of College Station from 1997 to 2000; and as a management assistant for the Lubbock City-County Library from 1996 to 1997.
Broussard also served as an administrative intern for the city of Lubbock Human Resources Department from 1995 to 1996.
He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Texas Tech University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Texas A&M University.
He also is active in state and international city management associations, according to the city. He was Region 7 president in 2007 for the Texas City Management Association, served on that organization’s board of directors from 2009 to 2011 and was named TCMA’s 2011 Administrator of the Year. Broussard also is a credentialed manager with the International City and County Management Association.
