Heritage Land Bank is offering four scholarships of $2,500 to 2015 graduating seniors.

“We have been doing the scholarship since 2006, when we awarded three $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors in the counties we serve” Yaziri Orrostieta, marketing director for Heritage Land Bank, said.

To be eligible, students must be a graduating high school senior, be a current youth loan customer or have an immediate family member who is a current loan customer of Heritage Land Bank, and must live in or attend a high school located in one of the 16 counties the bank serves.

Those counties include Anderson, Angelina, Cherokee, Collin, Dallas, Henderson, Hunt, Nacogdoches, Panola, Rockwall, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Smith or Tarrant.

“Heritage Land Bank has an internal committee who will determine the semifinalists based on scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, leadership qualities and the essay,” Orrostieta said. “The four scholarship recipients will be determined by the highest number of votes on Facebook.”

The topic for the essay is “Why I’m deserving of the Heritage Land Bank Scholarship,” which must be postmarked along with the students application by March 6 to the Heritage Land Bank corporate office.

“We are looking for well-rounded students who are actively engage in their community and have a passion for agriculture,” Orrostieta said.
