COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina man is expected to claim self-defense after shooting a Drug Enforcement Administration agent who burst into his home in a surprise raid.

The State newspaper of Columbia reports the trial of 32-year-old Joel Robinson starts Monday. DEA agent Barry Wilson was hit by a bullet that broke bones in his right elbow and forearm.

Agents thought they’d find a stash of drugs when they entered Robinson’s home near Orangeburg last October. They found only a little marijuana.

Robinson’s lawyers are expected to argue he thought he was the victim of a home invasion and fired a half-dozen shots in self-defense. Prosecutors are expected to say law officers announced themselves loudly after approaching the home with sirens.
