ROCKWALL — Robert E. lee seniors Lauren Lewis and David Hudson reached individual event finals Friday on the first day of competition at the Class 6A Region II Swimming and Diving Championships at Rockwall ISD Aquatic Center.

The top eight finishers in the prelims move on to the finals with the next eight swimming in a consolation final. Both races will take place Saturday.

Hudson, who won the District 11-6A Male Swimmer of the Year award two weeks ago, finished seventh in the boys 200-yard individual medley by finishing with a time of 1 minute, 56.04 seconds. The top prelim time in the event belongs to John Everett of Southlake Carroll with 1:53.53.

Lewis grabbed eighth at prelims in the girls 500-yard freestyle to make sure she was also swimming for a chance to make the podium on Saturday. Lewis’ time of 5:34.29 will have to be improved if she is to catch prelim winner Emma Wagner of Allen, who finished in a time of 5:04.46.

REL’s relay teams qualified for consolation finals, along with Lewis (girls 200 freestyle), Ethan Sukiennek (boys 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle), Zoe Francisco (girls 200 IM), Alex Docherty (boys 100 butterfly), Anna Ji (girls 100 backstroke) and Hudson (boys 100 backstroke).
