Big sin, little sin

“Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?’ And she said, ‘No one, Lord.’ And Jesus said, ‘Neither do I condemn you; go your way; from now on sin no more.'”— John 8:10-11 (NASB)

Adulterer, liar, thief, angry wife — there’s a place in Heaven for all of us.

True confession time — I sewed some wild oats when I was younger.

My sins may not be visible today, but they still qualify as “bad.” Some of us have learned to disguise our brokenness. We rationalize. We tell ourselves that we’re different because our lives are prettier than others whose sins are so visible.

But when we begin to think our sin is not as big or not as bad, then we need Jesus less and talk to Him less, rely on Him less.

It’s not a matter of “getting away with it.” If God knows the number of hairs on our head, he knows every evil thought and action. We were caught red-handed, and we are guilty.

I’m a sinner saved by grace. I may not have a dramatic story about being called out of a terrible life, but if I don’t share my story, I do the sacrifice on the cross an injustice. You might be like I used to be and not realize or acknowledge that your “little” sins count, and you need Jesus just as much as the big sinner does.

What’s your story? Have you shared it? You might be the only one who can reach a certain person because only your story will resonate with him or her.

The good news is that if you’ve committed a pretty sin or a pretty ugly sin, Jesus forgives and He’s there for all of us.
