KILGORE — After a woof to the wise, the planners behind this week’s ribbon cutting at Meadowbrook Bark will likely nix their proposed dog treat treasure hunt Friday.

Best not give the pups any reason to scuffle, said Kilgore City Council member Lori Weatherford, grateful for some cautionary advice from local dog whisperers.

Either way, she added, the pups at the 2 p.m. dog park dedication at Meadowbrook Park will still get a snack courtesy of the city, which invested about $13,000 from the FY2015 budget in the park along with a $20,000 anonymous donation.

“It’s going to be fun,” Weatherford said, co-organizing the ribbon cutting alongside Kilgore Planning & Zoning Director Carol Windham. “We’re going to have the Bulldog mascots out there and hopefully one of the K-9 officers” can make it.

“I would like to invite every dog that would like to to bring his human out.”

Friday’s event, she added, is a chance to show people around the new outdoor facility — Meadowbrook Bark includes two fenced-in areas of one-acre each for big and small dogs, respectively. More free activities are in the works for the new public space.

“Once it gets warmer and drier, I’d love to have another great big party out there,” Weatherford said. “We just want to go ahead and let everybody know it’s open.”
