The annual recycling competition is underway among classes at Andy Woods Elementary School and open to the public.

Bins for collection of aluminum cans have been placed on the school grounds, one for each of three teams competing in the contest.

The contest, which began Jan. 12, will extend through Feb. 20. Last year’s contest netted 371 pounds of aluminum cans.

Funds from sale of the recycled cans collected at Woods will be given to the fifth grade to leave something of themselves behind, probably a paver, when they move on to middle school, Ms. Boyd said.

The winning team will receive an extra 20 to 30 minutes of free play time.
