Both Tiftarea XC teams make state finals

ALBANY — Tiftarea Academy’s boys and girls cross country teams have one more meet ahead of them after qualifying Wednesday at the District 3-A championships in Albany.

The Lady Panthers were second as a team and the Panthers were third. Tiftarea’s girls had 75 points, trailing only Deerfield-Windsor’s 21.

Kate Phillips and Daylen Phillips led the TA charge by finishing 11th and 12th, respectively. Kate’s time 24:26 and Daylen crossed in 26:36. Sarah Grace Kozma was in second later, at 25:23, for 14th place.

Ruth Mobley earned 17th in 26:28. Peyton Cleghorn was 21st in 27:33. Four seconds later was Emri Golden and 22 seconds after that Julianne Hogg completed Tiftarea’s lineup.

Wildly, Tiftarea’s boys finished one behind the other at district, spanning from 14th-20th place.

Jase Hendricks was first for the group, 14th place in 21:29. Chase Parrish (15th) had a time of 23:02; Pierce Fulp (16th), 23:03; Davis Lightsey (17th), 23:40; Banks Brownlee (18th), 23:42; Keith Dorman (19th), 23:43; and Beau Hembree (20th), in 24:55.

State is scheduled for Oct. 26 in Macon.

Three younger Panthers ran in the JV meet Wednesday: Ethan Moorman, Frances Nelson and Annaliese Hester.
