TIFTON — Tift County is considering a partnership with Georgia Power to replace streetlights in the county with LED bulbs.

During the Oct. 8 Tift County Board of Commissioners meeting, public works director Jason Jordan reported that the electric company had proposed replacing the county’s streetlights with more efficient LED lighting.

Jordan explained that Georgia Power had assured the county that the switch would be at no cost to them, but would help them save upwards of $900 every month.

Additionally, were any of these lights to go out for any reason, Georgia Power would be notified of the outage and would be able to report as such to the county.

The commissioners moved to discuss the item further at their upcoming session next week.
